Penguins officials presented Bruce Glancy to members of the local print media today as their new catcher. The deal, worth $9,225,000, guarantees the 30-year-old a home in Providence for 3 years, and should improve the ballclub, assuming he plays to his potential.
In his career, catcher Glancy has averaged .313 with 136 hits in 434. He has belted 21 doubles, 3 triples, and 25 homers. In 120 games he has also racked up 92 RBI, 69 runs scored, and 63 walks and has an on base percentage of .409.

Providence Penguins center fielder Tsurayaki Ishiwata walked away with the Colonial League Player of the Week Award today after putting up some impressive numbers over the past seven days. Ishiwata batted .524, driving in 9 runs and thumping 5 extra-base hits along the way.
"The Penguins fans are really behind me right now," observed the 24-year-old. "That helps. They give you the confidence to go out there and do better."
Ishiwata has collected 96 hits for the Penguins this year, 14 of them home runs. He has also netted 57 RBI and scored 45 runs for the cause, while batting .293.

Jud Hurtt really sizzled at the plate in today's game. The San Jose left fielder blistered the Providence Penguins for 6 hits in 6 at-bats.
