ULB management announced today the relocation of two Pioneer League franchises: the former Hamakua Island Warriors are moving to Queens, NY to become the Queens Metropolitans and the Las Vegas Flush is headed to Florida to become the Tampa Cat 5. An announcement of two expansion clubs is expected shortly.

 | Monday, September 18th, 2006: Pioneer League Presents Hamakua Third Baseman Winkleman Player of Week Award
In 6 games over the past seven days, Thad Winkleman has feasted on Pioneer League pitching, and today the Hamakua Island Warriors third baseman gobbled up the league's latest Player of the Week accolades.
Winkleman swung the bat to the tune of a .400 average, with 2 runs batted in and 7 runs scored. He drilled 1 home run among his 5 extra-base hits, walked 4 times, and piled up a .483 on base percentage.
Winkleman hasn't got it all figured out yet; he is still a developing prospect. Even so, he is putting up adequate numbers for a 24-year-old. Winkleman is hitting at a respectable .277 pace this year with 8 home runs and 49 RBI. He has rapped 27 doubles and posted an OBP of .386 while playing in 131 games.

 | Friday, September 1st, 2006: Arturo Bernard of Hamakua Captures PL Rookie of Month Trophy
The PL's hottest rookie is Arturo Bernard of Hamakua. In August the second baseman hit safely 29 times in 101 at bats for a .287 batting average. He swatted 5 home runs among his 15 extra-base hits, walked 9 times, and had a .348 on base percentage.
Presently hitting at a .291 pace, Bernard has collected 14 two-baggers and 4 triples, rapped 11 out of the ballpark, scored 34 runs, and produced 41 RBI. He has also been walked 28 times and run up 1 thefts on the basepaths this season. In 288 plate appearances over 115 games, he has banged out 74 hits.
